Wise men Still Approach Him

The scriptures I’m using today in my

sermon calls these men “wise men”

or “magi”. They were skilled in

philosophy, medicine, and natural science.

They were soothsayers and interpreters

of dreams. They were greatly interested

in astrology thus their total attention

was on the star that led them to the

Christ Child. We do not know for sure

where these men came from. They most

likely came from the area around ancient

Babylon. If they were from that region,

these men would have had access to the

Jewish Scriptures. As a result, these men

would have known of the prophecy of

Numbers 24:17

“There shall come a Star out of Jacob,

and a Scepter shall rise out of Israel” 

So their thousand mile journey began

to find the Star of Bethlehem.
